We'd like to incorporate a First Ridden Showing class into the schedule at our local RC for this year. ;D Up to now there is only the equitation and family pony type classes for youngsters unless they would be put into the open M&M or <14.2 showing. One of the main reasons we are considering this is the difficulty in suddenly being expected to do group canter in the go round. In order to formulate the rules and judging criteria, besides height and ages, could you please give me some ideas on what the judge would look for or mark against. For example, do manners and suitability for the jockey outweigh big movement and HOYS standard conformation? Is it ok for a FR to be a little plainer if it is totally safe and sensible, or does that put it back in the family pony classes? Any help appreciated........

I THINK A JUDGE WOULD LOOK FOR A WELL MANNERED PONY, WHO WOULD TAKE A CHILD ROUND, AND BEHAVE ITS SELF, AS THIS CLASS SHOULD BE THE NEXT STEP FROM LR IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE THE CLASS AS A FIRST YEAR FIRST RIDDEN, THE PONY SHOULD BE IN A SNAFFLE TYPE BIT. THE JOCKEY SHOULD BE BLE TO SHOW THEY CAN RIDE THE PONY THEY ARE ON EVEN IF THEY DO NOT CANTER, SOME JUDGES MARK DOWN FOR NO CANTER, A NICE SWEET LITTLE SHOW AND A BIG SMILE. YES I THINK ALSO THEY DONT HAVE TO BE A SHOW STOPPER ITS RC LEVEL, SOME KIDS DONT HAVE HOYS PONYS AND SOME MUMS DONT HAVE MONEY TO SPEND ON FANCY JACKETS AND STUFF SAFE, SANE, HAPPY , WITH A BIT OF A RIDER IN THERE AS WELL. THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION OTHERS MAY DIFFER XX

At RC Level a happy, safe and content duo, not worried about any bling, and at this level wouldnt mind what the pony looked like so long as it sound and clean and tidy and doing its job which is encouraging the little ones onto the bigger classes, we do a walk & trot class for under 10`s and first ridden which they only canter in the show if happy is under 12`s though once they are deemed to good or have won a certain amount time for them to move on and let the next younger ones have a go Good Luck
