I've never posted on a forum before so I apologise if I get it wrong! I need some help, has anyone ever heard of a pony having a patch of hair clipped from their neck whilst in the field? My 8mths old section a had a section of hair missing on the side of his neck when I went to feed him on Sunday. It is a perfect rectangle and the hair has been cut not rubbed. The weekend before this happened he was out of his rug, I assumed at the time that he had just wriggled out of it (would be the first and last time in 3 mths however) but am now wondering if it is connected to the missing hair. We have also had several incidence of petty theft, such as batteries and sacks of feed going missing, and a middle aged couple were seen in my field, unfortunately the farmer assumed they were my parents doing my ponies for me. I am hoping that someone can shed some light on this or give me some advice please.

I had the police around warning me to report any strange instances- paint at equestrian entrances- sticks arranged in a way near gates etc-- I would be reporting this to them if I were you- better safe than sorry! I would move said pony too.

Firstly dont want to worry you but think its better to be safe than sorry, sounds very similar to the episiodes where horses/ponies were having a plait placed in the manes ready to steal !!!!
Would speak to police about it and if possible move the pony for a while
Keep us updated

Hi,
Thanks to everyone who has replied. I took your advice and contacted the police and the horsewatch group, both said they hadn't heard of this before.
The horsewatch group said they would contact their members to see if anyone had heard anything and to issue a warning to other owners, the police said they'd do a couple of drive pasts in the evenings/nights. I have moved the pony to another section within the same field so he is closer to the other horses over there. I would ideally like to move yards/fields completely but as he is uncut at present, and not yet mature enough to do, I can't find anyone willing to take him on livery. There has been nothing dodgy for a week but it was at the weekends that the other stuff happened so will let you know if I find anything tomorrow. Regarding a grudge I don't think I've upset anyone but your never really know.
Thanks again for all the posts, it's nice just to know that other people are being supportive.
