Can anyone give me any advice on toilet training new puppy. i have had dogs before and still have two old cockerspaniels that trained really easily. new puppy is german sheperd x border collie very bright and quite obidient. He is 81/2 weeks old and i have had him a week. He did start off really well but seems to be getting worse!!! i take him out every half hour and straight away when he wakes up. He has a habit of going outide and following the other 2 dogs around, sniffs around etc then runs back in the house and does the deed!!!! i grab him and put him outside 2 finish off but its taking the micky - other than him staying out all day but then he yowls!!!!! House starting to get smely, its back enough that it stinks of horses xxx

Hi - have you tried taking him out on his own as probably it is far too exciting being out with the big boys and so he is possibly forgetting and then as soon as he comes in and the excitement has died down its oh I need to pee!!
Try taking him out on his own and lots and lots of praise when he does it in the right place. Don't tell him off for doing it in the wrong place, just ignore it (difficult I know - but sometimes they just see the attention as positive!)
If you use a solution of non-bio washing liquid/pwder and water to wash it it will get rid of the smell so he won't keep going back and thinking that is the right place to pee.
It will soon sink in! (Worked with my JRT!)

know how you feel, my problem is similar, they were kennelded though and were clean then started in the house really well then has got worse, and iv got five indoors and once one does a wee they all follow and every morning befor doing anything i have to clean the kitchen and sitting rooms floors, i only feed them in morning and i let them out last thing at night about half eleven-twelve and watch them all go, and let them out first thing about seven but still no joy, any ideas? iv tried paper training and they go on that and everywhere else, if im in and they go to do something i holla at them and they run to the door and go outside so they know they shouldnt be doing it, im at a loss?

use a crate at night and at times in the day... dogs/pups very rarely mess their own bed.... take him out on his own and wait till he does his biz... can take a long time so be patient
when he has "performed"... lots of praise... use a word of choice (I say wee wees)

don't know if this will help but i read a puppy training guide (complete idiots guide to dog training or puppies for dummies not sure which) and it had some really good behaviour management tips in it. Never, ever let your dog see you cleaning up its mess. Apparently in a pack, the lowest member would be left with the job of "cleaning" up after the others so if they see you doing this you are automatically downgraded from leader to nobody. This worked for me when my pup kept having accidents.

WE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, WE PUT NEWSPAPER ON THE FLOOR INSIDE AND OUR PUPPY USED THAT, AND THEN WE STARTED LEAVING THE DOOR OPEN AND PUTTING PAPER OUT THERE. SHE THEN STARTED TO GO OUTSIDE!!!! ( a bit of a strange idea but it did seem to work!!!)
