We have (had) this problem with our Section A mare, always asked when its due etc. Seem to have cracked it this time. She is fed two small haynets of haylage one in morning and one at night. She is on a bald padock at night and is fed 1lb speedibeet and her ration of Top Spec conditioning cubes and their feed balancer. This took 3 weeks. Apparently to much chaff/fibre makes them bloat.

Thanks molly, I thought I was doing good giving mostly fibre as hard feed can send them over the edge???..will give this a try.

No worries, she looked like a pot bellied pig. will try and find the before picture (she was on loan till end of jan) and take one this week and send them. She is in during the day with a please dont feed sign on her door. Also just hacked out for 1/2 hour at weekends.

I have put up a post for tummy supplement advice as I have a pot bellied pig which I ride. However, I believe the bloating and pregnant tummy is more likely caused by lack of fibre going through constantly as the bloat is gas. It is difficult to supply sufficient fibre to those inclined to weight gain on hay alone but I don't think fibre should be cut down for bloated tummies except if it is excess wet grass.
I think most vets and nutritionists would be horrified at the suggestion of cutting down fibre.

Poss! She is fed Alfa with oil, Alfa A feed balancer, Alfa beet and then conditioning cubes added when worked. The Alfa feed balancer has the probiotics included.

Not really, she has a fab bum, her neck/ topline is coming on and to be truthful I didnt think she was that bad till the comment was made! but when saddle fitter came last she also mentioned she was a barrel shape and combined that with being short coupled this was making her girth lie forwards. Others have said she is just deep!

Oh I wouldn't worry too much then, saddlers like vets have the most uncomplimentary terms, but don't really mean anything by them. Thank goodness they didn't say she was a pear shape. Mine is a Therwell shape which is not very dignified when you are trying to do dressage and look beautiful with your legs akimbo.

LOL just re read my thread, I had omitted she has a maintance level of the nuts then when worked she has extra. She had a worn count done recently which came back clear so only required tape worming. I wont worry. Thanks for your time
