Posting this on behalf of a friend.
Her horse is getting turned out with a new one at the weekend, so she plans to boot hers up.
What sort of boots do you turn out in ?

sadly i dont think any boots would protect for a major injury if it were to occur, if its to stop the horse injuring itself some good all round brushing boots or sports medicine type bandage wraps, and over reach boots, but most kicks are to hocks, knees and upper limbs and i dont think even these would protect from a powerful kick, have the both got shoes on, could you not perhaps take the shoes off or introduce them gradually

weatherbetta do sports boots that wrap round and also go under and around fetlock joint, designed for spots injuries as well as protecting £24.99 a pair go on fronts or backs, i turn out , cross country and travel mine in them well worth the money and last for years.

i used some sportabac boots on my mare when turningout post op, work like bandaging but a lot easier and quicker to put on.
echo what others have said about a 'proper' kick though. If shes really worried about them scrapping would get them used to each other gradually first.

I also use sportbac and cannot complain. I plan to try the hardy chaps by equilibrium when they need replacing only because they look as good and easier to get locally

have a pair of the equilibrium chaps aswell but don't think they are as good as the sportabac. Did hear sportabac have gone bust so they will be hard to get hold of soon x

What is the problem you find donkeydo, we have only one set for the TB because he is such a cluts out in the field, we were going to get some more for the stallions as we were so pleased with them but if there is a problem I would rather leave them in their dressage boots and save my money.

They don't stay in place on his little legs!!! I either do them up too tight and cut his circulation off or they slip down. I'd stick to your dressage boots HP. We use the Equilibrium stable chaps (bedsocks) and they're ok but he is sometimes a hooly in the field so stick to sportabac turnouts.

We have the same problem with them, got some for a 13hh pony, she is fairly fine so got the small pony size and they slid down, tried them on a chunkier Sec A and they slid down, tried them on the new 14hh pony and they slid down The new one now goes out in open front tendon boots every now and then, I don't like to boot them up every day and she's very sensible so only use them every other day or so.

Our friend put boots on her ponies and there legs swelled up, so don't forget that they could cause injury instead of prevent it x
