Just doing a bit of reasearch as to what you all look for and want when you are wanting to board your cats. We have got a large modern barn and were thinking about opening a cattery, not a large one or a cat hotel but somewhere where they would be warm with underfloor heating individually controlled so that they are comfortable. Have private runs. Individual diets etc. What to you is the most important thing ? How often do you use them, if at all, because I know some people use sitters or neighbours. What time of year would you use them? Please let me know what you think Thanks

Hi think you need to go on a cat forum for that answer ...I would'nt dream of puttin my babies in a cattery ...... but there is one near me and its out of this world........... they look like summer houses all central heating small settees, beds, rugs, curtains.... its like home from home in some cases I would say better.....

I put my fur baby in one for the first time over christmas only after a huge family row that the cat was not an excuse to miss family christmas (sounded good to me lol). I finally tracked one down it was cat 7* hotel they allowed me to check it out first, and even allowed me take him in the pen and spend time cuddlleing him and I have to confess crying, they normaly take them off u and and bring them back. he came back fine just a lot more clingly than usal. I think this was down to the wonderful staff who said they had given him lolts of cuddles their attidude was it the cat was friendly like JJ and needed a cuddle they got one if they need their space they were left alone. Have already booked him for 2 weeks in septmeber and feel fin about it.

We had to put my old cat in a cattery once - lots of work being done in the house and we were away, so had no choice. She came back very clingy, which I guess means she didn't have much fun in there, but made her much nicer when we got her back. I never sent her back - but she was generally more than happy just being at home.
However, she unfortunately died, and we have just rescued two lovely little cat's for a local cat charity. They had been living in the cattery for about 5 months before we rescued them, and they were very chilled out any happy there when we adopted them. So we're putting them back there when we go on hols.
The cattery we use is a family run business, they are really friendly and really seem to know their stuff.
* The pens are outside (some bigger than others to allow for family groups) * Each run is separated from the next by a gap (which is supposed to reduce the risk of any bugs spreading) * Each has a little wooden house (big enough to put comfy cat beds in) the house has a window and a cat flap. * Each house is individually heated * Although outside, all pens are under the trees so that in the summer there is lots of shade, there is a plastic roof over the top to stop them from all getting wet in the rain. * They offer practically any brand of food. * The whole place is very clean, and well organised.
They have cats boarding most of the year, but get particularly booked up over the summer months - so it's best to book early.
