My youngster swings his back end out when he is being run inhand - any tips to stop this please......ps - he is not smacked!

Practice running him up the side of a fence ie he is between you and the fence and therefore can't do it. He is probably not going forward enough and more interested in you so if you do this you can get send him forward without him swinging round, he should get the hang of it then he will know what to do when you go the other way round in a show ring

We had this trouble with our boy! firstly try attaching the leadrope through to the other side so you can "pull him away" from you, also carry a showing cane in your left hand, so when he starts to twist, raise it to eye height to straighten him up. Also make sure you are running fast enough and aren't holding him back! We walked our boy out in side reins as he twisted his whole body, didn't just swing his hind quarters out. This made quite a difference. Hope that is of some help good luck!
