I'm still waiting from the 10th April - so nothing as long as yours but I hope I dont have to wait that long - it's driving me INSANE!!!!! As the mare is over and obv the foal gets bigger - will it get stuck coming out or will she struggle? She's also bagged up and then it goes down when she comes in at night and then in the morning it's up again??? This morning they were big and quite hard?

Don't worry Sparkle I had one who went 6 weeks over(boring!!!) but she foaled fine. The udder is harder and fuller in the morning as they've been standing still all night but tends to go down a bit during they day as they move around so she's just being normal - good luck!!

Our mare Manordeilo Vienna (section B) was due on the 14th of April and was born today. Fabulous palomino colt with 4 white socks and a snip. He has fabulous showing successes in his bloodlines and a potential stallion for the future. www.pencwarreponies.co.uk to see his picture. They will soon be turned out therefore nice pictures to follow with Welsh scenery. Ps Sooty is an adorable foal...thinking of names for our fab boy as we speak (wanting a welsh name).

Well my borrowed mare (wife for my stallion) had a lovely black filly yesterday (what's the betting I get the colt next year!), which will go back to the mare's owners, and I have no date for the new Sec A Seaview Jewel apart from covering cert. saying "running with stallion June/July" but not bagging up yet, and my own mare with a known date you already have up there!

I'm still waiting!!! Do they induce mares? If so how? My stud have said she's got 10 days until she's out of the 'safe period' and then the vet has to be called?? She's currently 357 days pregnant... ?

According to my vet - you dont induce mares full stop! They will foal when they are ready, she will only induce if something very wriong and you just need to get the foal out. We have a mare here who was due the week of 8-15 April - still no sign of her even being near foaling

Yep i agree, my vet also says inducing a mare is a no no! i once had a mare go 362 days! she produced a long legged but healthy foal. Hope you get your foalie soon.

Yep my mare was due 6th-10th April and she's bagged up, slack back end etc etc but no foal yet. She's still quite happy to mooch around her field and still happy and healthy! I hope for her sake it isnt much longer - she looks enormous. Can they get stuck??? I'm just getting worried and nervous again

Maybe foals are different but human babies tend to loose weight if they get over mature as the placenta loses efficiency.

totally agree with whats been said, mares dont tend to get induced,i know of a mare who went to 382 days, and the foal was dysmature. They dont carry on growing and growing,so dont panic! Well done everyone on all your lovely foals, cant comment on each post individually, although id love to,as some gorgeous foals been born! Im sleeping in tent at stables as got 343 and 327 days mares, hence only online on phone!w

As for growing and growing concerns, all that happened with my late foal was she seemed long legged but leaner than normal (because the placenta does not give quite as much goodness as they need as they go over a due date) and her mane and tail was a little longer than you see in a newborn foal born on the due date. Do not panic, foals usually only get stuck if they are mis presented at birth which is not down to the size of the foal but how it turns in preparation for birth. keep us informed

Oooh sparkle - you must be a nervous wreck........I am thinking of you!!!!!
I am sure it will all be fine, but the prolonged worry isnt helping is it!

Dont panic, we have a mare due on the 3rd April and she still hasnt produced, mares dont grow the foals above the size they can deliver and foalie will appear when it is fully cooked lol!!!!
They are not officially late until 370 days our friends mare just foaled at 32 days late yesterday!!!! I totally agree on getting stuck due to misrepresentation on delivery. So we can just be patient together lol!!!!!

You lot are life savers (Mine in this case!!) I've been panicing with worry as this is what people keep telling me and now I'm gonna tell them to keep their gobs shut until they know what they are talking about! Thanks so much. People have been really full on and trying to 'scare' me into doing thing i.e. you MUST be there at the birth, You MUST do this, You MUST do that - I've also got a full time job to do aswell!! Yes Lovepink I've been a nervous wreck Mare is quite happy mooching around her paddock without a care in the world - well apart from searching for her carrots I've hid in her hay!
