Maybe she just feels a bit odd and doesn't understand why as it's her first.
I was lucky enough for my first time D mare to have hers at teatime in front of an audience some years ago, and it was fascinating. She was wandering around the small paddock in the first stages of labour, obviously feeling very odd indeed and coming to me from time to time as if asking me what was going on. Eventually she lay down, gave a few heaves and produced the foal. Then she looked around a bit, with a look on her face saying "Phew, whatever happened there, I'm glad it's all over". Then the foal whinnied. She turned her head round and saw it, and the look on her face was quite amazing - "What on earth is that and how did it get there?" We have a series of photos of all this which are hilarious! And I'm pleased to say that she got up and turned into a normal doting mother, as I'm sure yours will too.

aaah that is a lovely story sarahp. My maiden mare looks a bit confused, when her tummy wriggles. She turns and looks at her tummy and moves about a bit cross. She has no idea! LOL
