i am 5'1 and used to get on my 12hand section a every now an again, he was really stocky though, i also had a 11,2 who wasnt as chunky but i was too heavy for him so never rode him, i weight about 9 1/2 stone at the time, he carried me easily but not sure i would ridden him all the time though

Obviously dont know your weight! but your height is definately not an issue! If you want to ride her then do, you will know if she is struggling to carry you and if so re evaluate then. I have a sec A colt and i fully intend to back and school on myself when the time comes and compete in dressage! im 5"4 and weigh 9st. He is a chunky well built chap, if he struggled with me then i would find a smaller rider.

small breed m&m's with plenty of bone should be able to carry a small adult the pace, speed and endurance at which they carry that adult depends on the fitness of the pony and the size and weight of the rider as already pointed out, your height is not an issue and i cannot imagine that a 4ft11in rider is carrying an abundance of weight .. pop on the scales and see what you weigh if you are unsure or why not have a photo taken of you sitting on your pony and post it on here with your original request good luck showing in 2010

I had a 13.3hh welsh and i didn't feel that big on her. I would ride something smaller than that, but i am 5'3 in height and normally weigh around 7.5 stone. I have a 15hh horse to ride and sometimes think that i am over horsed and anything bogger than that and i am definately over horsed. Use your own judgement, if you think you are too heavy, don't do it, if you feel that you are light enough then on you go, there's not really any right or wrong answer if your a suitable weight and the pony is a weight carrier.

My daughter rides our Sec A and she is over 5 ft and the pony is nowhere near full up 12hands, he is probably 11.3 ish, he carries her no problem, however her old FR pony was only a fraction smaller than him and she looked huge on him, it all depends on how the pony takes up the leg as to how the picture will look. Height wise you should have no problems and as long as you aren't excessively heavy for your height or very unbalanced then she should carry you ok.

I have one lent out for a small adult to ride - I haven't asked her for her vital statistics but am very happy that she is not too big for the pony to carry. Pony is a big deep A and fine with her.

Sometime ago there was an article somewhere about weight of pony/horse & how much weight they could carry. Was based on percentages. I am between 8-8 1/2 stone & that was the upper end of ok for an average weight section A (I am 5'4") I don't ride ours every week just on/off sort out problems or to hack & never feel there is a problem. Hope that helps. PS There are several adult producers who ride small ponies!

You,re all soo lucky, unfortunately I am far too tall to ride ponies, but I watch my daughters instructors popping on ours and am really jealous. Wish I could still ride ponies. Would love to be petite. However I think everyone has enough common sense of their own to make their own decisions.

i think your fine to ride a section a !! i think under 9 and a half 10 stone is ok bethany how on earth your too big for your 13'1 i dont know :S im 5'2 well i like to think i am however ive been told im not that tall i weigh around 8 stone , dont like to check the scales too often LOL , im 17 turning 18 but have been told i look like im 14 .!!! i ride all out section a's even sat on my little brothers shetland for a laugh and he thought it was great and went for a little gallop allthough id never get on him again or ride him in the ring. i ride the a's c's d's and the event horses and showjumpers at our yard allthough im far too small on the 16'2 eventer. although bieng tall on a section a is ok i think being too heavy is unfair. a lot of people complain about adults on kids ponies but if the section a is true to type it will be stock and strong enough to carry a small adult and nowadays not many section a's really are genuine kids ponies , same applies for shetlands a lot of them are little buggers and can be really strong, however there are some lovely genuine kids ponies out there !!! welsh mountain ponies years and years and years ago used to carry the farmers around the hills so im sure they could manage small adults (please excuse spelling )

Someone who would know what they are talking about or some plonker? I am about 5'5" and would say I was too big to ride Puzzle who is an inch smaller than your NF, however she is a fine SP type whereas yours is a native pony and a young one at that, you will probably find as he fills out and muscles up that he will take up your leg more, so any impression of you looking too tall on him will disappear. IMO Hannah looked bigger on Toby last year when she was smaller than she does this year even though she is taller as he has filled out a lot over the past few months

i belive it depends on the pony, as there is a pony at work(lovely sec a) and she is only allowed to carry me and i am under5ft and 6st 6 18 yr old, and she is fine with me but cannot have anyoone heavier as she is too weak..
