Just wondering how people feel/ what you think about carrying on excercising and doing the occasional ridden show with a mare in the early part of pregnancy??

It's ok to do isnt it? I dunno, I didnt ride my mare through any of her pregnancy for one reason or another so cant comment but I think it depends on the individual horse There are much much more experience people on here then me (it's my first time!) who can probably answer better!

I rode my old D mare until we had to decide whether to clip her for the winter or not - and that included every activity too, she was PC eventing with my daughter.

I personally dont as my mares are "brood mares" but I can see no reason not to ride them, they will tell you when theyve had enough and are uncomfortable so carry on but listen to her!!!! Many people continue to ride them - one of our local hunt servants hunted his (unknowingly though) right through and wondered why she was putting on weight, she foaled a super healthy filly!!!! She was whipping in only a couple of days previous.

I hacked out a friends mare until she was too big to put the saddle on and she had a lovely healthy foal.
I Dont hack Violet as she is in foal due to injury.

I think it's very healthy for a mare to carry on with her usual activity during early pregnancy. My current in-foal mare was ridden right up to Christmas and, even now, we sometimes pop on her to go back to the field - I have every faith that she will let us know if she is the least bit uncomfortable....although she is a good bit wider now (She's due end of April)
