WARNING - DON'T READ IF SQUEMISH or HAVING LUNCH!!!!! wonder if any of you can advise the best possible wormer for my dog? I usually use drontal but want to give him a really good worming. Basically he's had an upset tummy overnight along with lots of wind and the runs. He hasn't had any diet changes, hasn't eaten anything he shouldn't have or had excess to any other dogs this week (his walkies have been at unsociable times due to work), he seems to be recovering and is alright in himself, no temperature etc. My daughter arrived home at 3am and he'd had an accident (note:again don't read on if you are squemish ), luckily she works part time as a kennel maid and had the enviable job of cleaning up as i was throwing up in the garden . Anyway she screached that there was something in is poo that looked like a slug!!! My 1st thought was a tapeworm but she was insistant it was a slug (i couldn't look as second bout of chuck up was happening in the garden, lol). I'm sure he couldn't have ingested the slug, the accident was in the house so i don't think it slithered there. Any ideas? ? anyway he's on chicken and rice later and when he's fully recovered i thought i'd give him a good dose of wormer. Sorry its a yucky question!

i cant give you a diognosis but one of my dogs had an upset stomach the other week and she had very strange poo which sounds exactly like yours , it wasnt a really runny poo but it was loose and she had slug looking bits in it as well, again she wasnt unwell in her self and ate all her food as normal, this lasted a couple a three days and then was all fine again, again all the dogs wormed with drontal, as its meant to be the best, so imo i wouldnt be too concerned if in a couple of days he's ok, and maybe just for peace of mind worm him with a different one

thanks for the reply, Harvey hasn't had any problems since about 8.30am, i didn't feed him til tea time though and he seems to be ok thank goodness. I'm going to keep him on chicken and rice this weekend and all being well give him a good dose of wormer next week. I didn't want to rush off to the vets and be landed with another bill so i'll see how he goes. Am i strange that i find it strangely comforting that you found slug bits too? I thought i was going mad

Hi, After you saying about something that looked like a slug in his poo, we took our dog to the vets at the other day to have his annual checkup and jabs and the vet said a lot of lungworm cases has been seen in dogs at the moment. Lungworm is caused by eating something that has had a slug or the slug trail on it an also if a dog has eaten a slug. There is only one brand that covers dogs from lung worm called Advocate, so it might be worthwhile seeing what your vet thinks if your dog doesn't seem his/her usual self. (Advocate covers everything for worming) Hope this helps. x

I have slugs in my house (currently awaiting council doing something about it) however if dog HAS eaten a slug, then yes as stated above, slugs and snails carry Lungworm and CAN BE FATAL to dogs and cats. get enviromental health out soon as to get slug problem sorted and get dog to vet asap.
