If your child was told "If it Mongs with its head, gob it one" What would you think?
If your child was told this by a BSPS Accredited trainer - on a training clinic - what would you think?
What does "If it Mongs with its head" mean??? What does "Gob it one" mean???
Is this good advice? Should we be learning these techniques from our BSPS Accredited trainers?

by the term "gob it one" i guess they mean pull hard and quick on the rein, and i have no idea what "mongs with it's head mean" but sounds like maybe poke it's nose or nod, at a guess.
Maybe you should find out why it "mongs" with its head before you "gob it one"
You should have asked the trainer to explain at the time.

These comments need referring to BSPS if they come from an accredited trainer! I hope you had witnesses, it's not acceptable.

yes we would all love to know so that we can avoid this so called trainer at all costs, perhaps some of these so called trainers should be better refured to as bullies cause thats what they are doing bullying horses/ponies into submission and it is so WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think she wants you to clout, or yank on the reins everytime it attempts to strech its neck, nodd its head or even just when its just not as round as it was before. That is disgraceful, find a new trainer as to teach a child these things means that this behaviour in getting ponies to go with there head on the bit continues!!

surley "gobbing " the pony in its mouth would make the horse shake its head more? There could be a genuine problem with the horse that needs checking out.. such as a sore neck or the pony could be a head shaker?. But "gobbing" it in its mouth would just frighten and hurt the ponies mouth which obviously isnt the answer.

A few years ago, my daughter spent a week with a well known traner who is now a credited bsps bhs trainer. When se came home she said all she had learnt was to jab her ponies mouth, would be interested if it was the same people/person

thankfully i had a brilliant instuctor who always tought me from a young age to keep my hands still and even, and a way i learnt was to hold the whip across my hands and held it under my thumbs. Being taught this helped alot when i moved onto my 14hh SHP who was a fiesty one when it came to the extensions in my show lol! I was told that the more the rider fiddles with the ponies mouth it stops responding to any communication through the reins :S My Mare goes an absolute dream when there is a neat and still jockey on her.

Not sure what the trainer mean by using that unacceptable term, and not good advice either, looks like the trainer is trying to create more ptoblems then they want to solve.

BSPS Rulebook 201 page 108.
*Modified to add - it was the terminology which was inappropriate.
We can all say unfortunate things and make errors sometimes.
And, before anyone jumps down my throat, I would stress that the entry and assessment for the BSPS/BHS Accredited Show Trainer is very stringent.
Maybe an unfortunate off-day, or off moment.

The terminology was inappropriate???!!!!! We can say unfortunate things? ? Are you real? Not only is it a completely disgusting way of saying things, however you say it, it is pretty darned obvious someone has been told by a BSPS accredited trainer to sock a pony in the teeth. Using the Queen's English wouldn't make it acceptable either. Who is on that list? I bet there are a very select few who would ever use that vocabulary. Let's figure it out between us & steer well clear.

I completely agree. As I said, the terminology was inappropriate. Grossly so. But I wasn't there and neither were most other people, so, without first hand information, it would be incorrect to start jumping up and down.
Perhaps the parent concerned could/should have commented at the time (when, presumably they heard it be said) and withdrawn said child if the circumstance required it. Made a formal complaint. Not just bleated on a forum.
Does anyone remember the dog trainer Barbara Woodhouse? She could be very blunt and at times downright rude.
I'm not condoning the supposed comment; I simply said that the entrance for this Certificate is stringent. The Senior Assessor is Head of Training, BHS.
I know, I am on that list. And proud of it.
