Not safe to put them either in with mares (unless you want foals!) or in the next door field - they will try to cover over the fence if they feel the need - unless you have a thick hedge or electric as well to form a wider separation strip so that they cannot sniff noses. I have an American barn system of stables and they are in the same area in their separate boxes and being led past each other up the central aisle and all are expected to behave!
Why do you have an entire? Geldings are much easier to keep and have a much happier life than a stallion unless you are going to breed from them.

obviously dont turn out with mares and all ways leave fields gap or as sarahp said fence and strip of electric so they can not touch noses, other than that treat as normal ,he should be used to having mares around him and he must learn he cant just jump on any mare in his vacinity!!!! even covering stallions quickly learn and even know the difference between covering bridles and work bridles . be firm but fair ,big mistake people make is to be too harsh and then when stallion retaliates wonder why ! just remember there is a line and he must not cross it .

Obviously I don't know your partner's exact experience, but TB stallions that are used to having teasers check out their mares for them and only ever come in contact with in season mares they are expected to cover can have a different outlook on the situation!
As hunter says, they have to learn the difference between jobs. I only know what happens here, and my entires are treated like anything else except for where I turn them out - and they do all go out together too but are used to that from when they are weaned. As for covering manners - mine usually get a couple of experienced mares as 2yos, and are run out with them. They will soon teach him not to be too enthusiastic but to ask nicely and take no for an answer if that is the one they get!
Maybe your first step as you haven't had him long would be to work with him in hand, form a bond and instill obedience to you and mutual respect. Then can you lead him (in a bridle!) around near where the mares are - along outside their field or past their stables but keeping safe until he finds that not so exciting and knows that when being led his attention must be on you?
