I know this sounds dull but did you have to warm it up or direct from the carton? As i presume it would have to be kept chilled in the fridge to be fresh

Sorry, not sure the best way, suppose it would have to be treated like normal milk and then warmed through. We used it straight from Pamela the goat! It was hard work though, tried to get the foal to suckle, although that didn't work so we just drew it from her and put it in a baby bottle. Hope your foalie is ok!

Apparantly feeding cocoa powder to mare should increase milk production. Some debate as to when and how much but good results all the same. Think the Foaling Bank are who recommend this, might be worth giving them a phone to find out.

Check on www.allgoats.com and see if there is a goat person near you. Most goat people freeze milk and store it for use when needed.

Having had an orphan foal myself, I would STRONGLY recommend against using goatsmilk, lambs milk or anything else. It can do lots of harm to a young foal as it is not formatted for them. There are several mares replacement milk powders available and some great foal creep feeds specially for foals 0 -3 months needing additional milk or feed. Please do not go for the cheap option as it may cost you lots more in the long run.
Depending how much milk your mare has or has not got, apparently feeding your mare cocoa powder may help increase and stimulate milk production.... I have heard this from loads of quarters, also feed the mare very well so she has enough to produce milk from. I would feed her a stud balancer like Baileys Stud Balancer or Top Spec Balancer asap and ensure you are building up her hard feed levels to help her....
