Good Morning just out of interest what is the first feed you offer your mares after they have foaled, i would have thought a nice bran mash as this might be the same as our tea and toast after we have had a baby !! advice please

Well mine foal out so just carry on with grass, but I don't like feeding bran under any circumstances because the calcium:potassium ratio is all wrong - what about something sugarbeet based?

yes i know about the whole calcium debate , but the mare has had a touch of lammie, but not really sure as she has been out everyday so vets not clear if it is to doo with the hard ground, so not too keen on Sugar beet but maybe 1 feed wont trigger it she is on Happy hoof ans spillers grow and win at the vets request and good hay and out in a paddock ( not too much grass) she is looking fab and is holding her weight and is due end of may thanks

Mine all get a warm bran mash with a little hard feed in. The theory being that it helps to loosen the dirt a little while they are sore behind.

You can get unmollassed sugarbeet which is fine for laminitics. You could always ask your vet.
