We brought a new cat home yesterday, an ex breeding queen LaPerm. she's very nervous and still hasn't touched her food yet (been here 32 hours) I don't want to start worrying yet as I know cats can go for a while without eating and I think she's getting a drink while we're not looking but just wondered how long is too long to wait before seeking some professional advice?
She travelled a good distance in the car yesterday and was given rescue remedy for the journey but by last night she was in a lively mood and happy for kisses and cuddles so I don't think she's still feeling lethargic from travelling.
Thanks Amy

Is it the same food she was having before you collected her? Sometimes they can be picky!

Well the previous owner gave me the brand names of what she fed her but didn't give me specifics like "won't eat meat with gravy, only jelly" or anything like that so as far as I'm aware what I've bought her is what she normally has, and it sounds like she was used to eating a variety of different brands because the list was quite long!

Hmm. I'd probably just leave it a bit longer then. If there's no reason why she won't eat what you've given her, she's probably just having a little sulk. She'll eat it when she's ready.

Thanks Milliesmum Might nip out and get her one of the other brands to try and tempt her if she hasn't got over her sulk by tomorrow.

Try giving him/her a tin of tuna (or part of a tin)...normally works a treat.

Hmm. My old girl LOVED tuna. Trouble is then when you put cat food down she'd give you this disgusted look, as if to say 'What's THIS muck, and where's my tuna? '

cats can be picky and interstingly enough they are one of the species that will actually starve themselves and become anorexic.. if she has not eaten in 3 days I would see my vet..
