Hi
I was wondering what type of bits other people use on their LR and FR ponies.
Our young pony who is just starting FR isn't strong, but can get long and low and I am trying to find a nice bit to help my 7 year old daughter keep him together a bit more than an ordinary snaffle. Any suggestions please.
Both our ponies use 4" bits and it is hard to find a good variety of bits that small at a reasonable price. I just can't keep buying expensive bits just to try them out!
Any advice / suggestions would be welcome.

We use wilkie, but when she's a bit fresh we use a globe pelham. Do forgive me if I have spelt pelham wrong. lol

you can try abbey bits they do a hire a bit. wilkie/loop ring snaffle as they are also know are nice on first riddens but do check rules of the society you show under on bits before you purchase one would be my advice. i think fylde saddlery do small bits worth giving them a ring there suppose to be very helpful.

Cerys my daughter rides her Welsh A pony in a loose ring french link snaffle, and her Shetland in a hanging cheek single jointed snaffle. I always like to start ponies in the loose ring FL, and if they're happy in it they stay in it, but Sammy hated it, and refused to bend in it. We've found he goes best in the hanging cheek.
We do dressage occasionally and wouldn't consider the wilkie or loop ring snaffle as they are not dressage legal.
Cerys is 7 and in her 3rd year of First Riddens (it did take her a whole season to learn her show, bless her!).
An eggbutt snaffle would be perfectly fine for first riddens if the pony goes well in it.
