I have posted this on behalf of my friend, she is coming to her wits ends to be honest. Her mare has not been right for a few years now and finally she has got a diagnosis...
Sunshine has a deformed spinal process which is touching the one in front and behind AKA impinging spine or kissing spine.
Vet is going to inject her with the cortisteriod Depo medrone into her spine.
Has anyone had any experience of the injections? Good and Bad??
Thank you

my pony had kissing spine ,had no jabs or any other pain medication just 18 months off work in a field and has now been back into work for over 5 years with no problems and does all kinds of work from jumping to dressage. i would be worried if you were using the jabs and still riding as this is possible in case you were out riding down the rode and it didnt work you could end up being hurt. please be careful. there are lots of pros and con with this , the vets wrote my pony off offered a bullet or loss of use stamp, we still have him with the loss of use stamp, hes fit and well and working just gone on loan to a friend who will do the pony club on him soon.

Sunshine has been off work for a while and then put on bute then reduced to see how she copes with it. After the injections she has to have time off, I think 6 months to a year?!

I think some vets do operate on this condition, would it be worth asking a specialist vet hospital? I'm sure anyway the treatment would depend on the exact individual condition of the animal.

I do know of horses that have been treated in this way and have gone on to lead happy lives, in hacking homes.
Good luck xx
