My little tree rat has come in with a slightly torn ear and crying, bless him after the first panic and nearly dialing 999, have calmed down and bathed it with salt water and wrapped him up in a blanket as looking at it nothing a vet can do. have told him he can no longer be a model he just purred and bit me. should I put anything else on it.

No just keep an eye on it and keep it clean. Cats teeth and claws are notorious for puncturing and pushing dirt into wounds. My old girl had a nasty abcess because she had a puncture from a claw and I didn't notice it. Soon sorted with an antibiotic injection from vet, but if I'd noticed it sooner I could have just cleaned her up. Just check him over and make sure that there are no other 'war wounds' anywhere.
If it gets puffy or looks infected at all you could try bathing with epsom salts, will draw any infection out.
