hill work. work on bit up hills, with your bum out of saddle to encourage stepping through

Transitions, transitions, transitions! Anything that brings the weight back towards the back end will build it up - try trot-canter-trot, acute trasitions (particularly canter to walk) and transitions within the pace from collection to extension and back.

Found Pessoa fab on our showpony for building up her back muscles. Just lots of transitions up and down.
