Hi I think having only competed in the ponies class that it is unfair the sfas class as at the end of the day it is whjat the judge prefers on the day, some judges like sp more then shp so having experinced it the jugde prefers sp so really the shp dont stand a chance!!!

Having previously qualified and competed in the sp class sfas at hoys i think you will find that the judges are totally unbiased and give a very fair and honest judgement of the class. They do not have a preference for sp and chose what is best on the day.

I also qualified for SFAS at HOYS, but with a SHP, and at the final at HOYS the year I did it there were actualy 6 SHP that had qualified and 4 SP!

yes but really they should be split, they are 2 completly different types of ponys and so they should be split shp's and sp's.

pipandwill your just not getting it are you. they judge each animal as an individual and mark it on the ride and the conformation and then place accordingley. if you do not like the format then just don't enter the class. the cost is just the same as the open hoys qualifiers and i think you will find there are less entries in the open classes than in the sfas classes.

i am getting it, firstly you dont get the open classes with show ponies and shp's so y do it there? it was just a idea and it is extremly unlikely that it will make any difference to it. Also i think you will find that there are just as many if not more in the open HOYS qualifiers. they are 2 different types of ponys they dont judge the horses classes together do they! It is like judging a cob class and a hack class together!!!

they are 2 different types of ponys they dont judge the horses classes together do they! The hacks and Riding horses are judged together! But the best of each still go through to the championship. When Fleet water Xecutive won at HOYS, I think I'm right in saying that he wasn't top in his section, the riding horse was, but he still went through as the best Hack and was champion.

I think the judges chosen have a good knowledge of both show ponies and SHP's and therefore choose what they think is the best on the day and could become a star in either catagory. I thought that is what the class is all about. Also just wondered why this is in BSPS chat??

Saz88 you are right there was only one judge on sunday and they usually have 2. Not sure why that was.
I think SFAS is harder than the open Hoys classes as they are mixed classes so therefore the class numbers are bigger.
In 2008 we qualified open SP for Hoys with 8 in the class at midland counties and at Cheshire the same year there were only 5 in the class so think you have a better chance in the open classes than SFAS.

I did them a few years ago...and i may be mistaken in thinking its still the same, but what seemed unfair was that it was the same judge for every qualifier so if they didn't like you in the first one you did there was no point in entering the others, as they remembered the combination and remembered how it was last time, you didn't feel that you got a chance. They are still a great idea though, i just wish they would extend it to m&m's but realistically, they would need a whole day to judge it for the amount of enteries they would probably get!

If pipandwill is right then they could not have a "Best of Show" at Crufts because they are all different! Obviously they take the best of whatever is in front of them on the day. SP (the best of) against SHP (the best of) then best of best - easy really!

i know plenty of people that prefer SHP because they say that SP are too sticky and flicky.

at hoys they have a shp first and a sp first so there are 2 first rosettes awarded- one to the top sp and one to the top shp- so if you qualify for the final it is actually very fair x

we did the qualifier at osbaldeston, thought the judging was very fair, best of type won. i wont be doing one again though as even though the class was split i found the go round to be quite frankly dangerous what with 12.2's and 15hh's all wizzing round, had a few very near crashes!
