Just wondering if anyone else hates their job??
I find mine mind-numbing majority of the time. I keep debating whether to look for another job but people here are nice its small only like ten people. Hours suit horses.
But its just so dull. Cant work out whether its a good or bad thing.
I really want my own small livery yard - i know people say its a bad idea but horses really are my life and the office job life is just so boring.
Anyone else in the same boat?

i know exactly where your coming from, hated working in every sense, but once you make the leap, your jumping into uncertain ground, if you have a quiet couple of months or something happens and you get a big bill to pay, it can be very stressful, i left good job in insurance , and thought il just buy and sell the odd horse and do a bit of this and that, worse thing i ever did, and got other jobs and didnt like them, and the longer you dont work the harder it is to settle back into mundane jobs, after four years iv decided that im just gonna have to get a proper job, at least intill im in a more secure position, would it be possible for you to start a small livery yard but also keep your job, so you'v got some security on the off chance it doesnt work out profitable? because coming out of employment in this climates scary stuff

Sorry sutty I don't agree. I spent 20 years doing a job I hated. I regret every wasted second of it. Life is for living, you only get one go at it.

No, I don't hate my job, far from it. After many years of slaving for other people and then retiring at 60 I was actually asked to go and work for a small company which is situated in this very village. The hours are great, pay not too bad, good people to work for - and now it looks like the business is going to fold. I can't say why or what but isn't it just typical: I find a real niche in life and whoosh it's gone!
Yes, life is for living so make the most of it. If you wake every week-day morning with that awful dread feeling in your stomach then it's time to move on.

surely you should still be allowed to go see if the grass is greener on the other side, how do humans get anywhere if they stick to what they know best of within their comfort zone, but with no challenge, satisfaction, or whatever it is that makes someone happy at their work
totally agree gtr121, life is for living, you spend the majority of your life at work, why spend that time being miserable

if you can afford it and you have the guts i'd say go for it! You only get one shot.
For me personally, my jobs ok (childminder). in the winter its rubbish - rain, being stuck indoors with fractious kids, gloves, hats, wet coats. BUT in the summer its amazing - i pack the kids up with lunch, put the dog on the lead and spend all day by rivers and parks sunning myself with the sound of childrens laughter ringing in my ears. Better than an office job but not quite as good as working with horses (would love a little stud or a small animal/ community farm or rescue home) Another plus is that when i'm busy i earn a pretty decent wage - don't know what i do with all though cos i'm still skint!
Whatever it is you do, there's always good and bad but if the bad outweighs the good then maybe its time for a change? Good luck

everyone should have a go once. The grass is often greener though and at the end of the day you do need to know exactly how much money you can get by on. Once that is sorted though, take the plunge!! I've done all sorts over the years and right now I'm sat in an office staring out at a bright sunny day wishing I was anywhere but here. However, I know that the money is rolling in and I'm looking forward to the life I have outside this BORING JOB!! not worrying about the fact that I don't enjoy it.

I retired 3 years ago and when I look back I do not know how I stuck it. BUT working for the NHS for 35 years does give an excellent pension. I learnt to have a switch that said off! when the pressure was too much The firest thing my nurse collegues say when I meet them is how many pay days they have left before they retire. I think the working world is stress, stress and more stress. The political correctness had gone mad in this country. If you are really looking to change careers I think you should make a list of positives and negatives because we all need money to survive now adays.

em that is really sad. I feel for you. I lost my job today. I hated it but the money was great. Be careful what you wish for. But I have a new horse, summers coming and I'm looking forward to doing all the things I have been dreaming of when I was staring out of the window wishing I was anywhere else! I've been made redundant 5 times in the last 8 years, had 12 different managers and I'm not sure I have any teeth in my head left to be kicked out by crap senior directors who have the next "big idea". But I have 3 doggies and two horses who love me and need me and a family who are the most important thing in my life. Life is too short. JUST DO IT! Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Life is for living, you only get one go at it. I always think that should be the one saying that everyone lives their life by. It was always my dad's 'motto' and he dropped dead of a heart attack at the age of 54 - but he lived his life while he had it - just desperately sad it was over so soon. So basically what i am saying is you never know what might happen tomorrow so live every day as if its your last!

Felt exactly the same as you! Started doing a bit of work on our yard at the weekend for a bit of extra money then hated going back to my office job, it was making me really really miserable - they had done a lot of things in the last couple of years that would probably have got them into a lot of trouble. It was a really small family owned business where the same person I had a problem with was the same person who was meant to sort them out!!! Needless to say, today I handed in my notice! Probably quite irresponsible of me but I've got bits and bobs to keep me ticking over until I get a full time job again but in the meantime I'm going to enjoy my horses and the Summer showing season! One of my good friends lost her Mother last year to Cancer and she worked so hard for tomorrow that she never lived for today - my friend has learnt from that and now so have I. If you really want something, go for it!!!

I do enjoy my job, I can do it well and get paid a lot of money BUT if I could afford to take the pay cut I would start again and get some horse qualifications and become an instructor. I love nothing more than a day off to potter around the farm and ride etc. HO hum. I live for 5.30 and the weekends at the minute

I have to say I might moan about the NHS but would not change the decsion I made all those years ago to be a nurse. You could never call my job boring as I see so many diffrent things and diffrerent people every single day. I hope, however, I have made the right decision in returning to midwifery after all these years, we shall see I guess. One of the driving forces for that was finances as I may well get paid more as a midwife than as a nurse. I often wonder because I hate being poor so much if I should have done a well paid job that perhaps Idid not like as much but gave me a better quality of life?? Working in the NHS is never going to make anybody a millionaire, thats for sure! Have to say if it is at all possible for you lennynlevi, follow your dreams if you are still young enough to do it, life is too short to be unhappy!

I've done a complete turn around, left everything and gone back to collage to retrain in a completely different occupation, my only regret is that I didn't do it years ago, so if you have the opportunity then go for it. I'm having a great time.

thanks sarahp, it is very rewarding, writing essays came as a bit of a shock the old brain had to be kicked into action, but it is much easier to access information with the help of the good old Internet, not like it used to be when you had too get 50 books from the library.

Are you going to be doing 3 hr hand written exams? That was the real shock to the system! When I started we had to go to the hard copy stuff, internet not allowed, but new head of course halfway through allowed internet - but we had to be VERY selective as regards sources.

I'm not sure about mine at the moment. Currently working with someone who is great but he is being moved on to other things and the person who is taking his place really is the original Mr Nasty. Many of my hours are spent unpaid but on the other hand I have done far far worse in my time and I get to travel a fair bit. I also work from home 4 days or so a week so do not have to get involved in day to day office politics.

After a company I was working for went down 12 months ago, and I did not get paid for 3 months work. I then took on 2 jobs to get some money back in the bank again, one I love and the other I really do not like. However I was just enjoying having the extra money again, and was about to hand in my notice to the one I do not like, when I got a phone call from the other company saying they have gone into administration and by the way you are unlikely to get paid as I am termed as self employed. I cannot belive this can happen to me twice in 12 months. This company was over 100 years old, and a large local company with no warning signs. So now I am left with a part time job I really do not like and no money again!
