I cannot believe my other miniature schnauzer is today in the veterinary clinic with suspected AIHA !!!!!! He is really poorly and was fighting fit until Tuesday when he was just sick-he spent yesterday not too happy and off his food, took him this morning to the vets-they took him straight in with a prognisis of Auto immune Haemolytic anaemia-full diagnosis to follow when bloods are returned from a complete check. He will need steroids probably azathioprine and goodness knows what else-that is if he responds at all. Poor lad he is only 8 !!! My other schnauzer was diagnosed with diabetes last year-cannot believe they both have such difficult problems. Fingers crossed he will respond to treatment.

Glad to say he seems to have responded well to treatment and after 4 days of constant tests etc he does not have to go back until Friday-unless I have any worries. Gosh he has so many tablets !!!!!! His PCV has come up from 14 to 30 so they were quite please with him. Cannot believe how expensive it all is but then he deserves a chance !!

that is so tragic and my heart goes out to you. I know exactly what you are going though and I hope Max and Bollinger are looking after each other at the rainbow bridge. XXX

AIHA-Autoimmune Hemolytic Anaemia is such a devastating illness-one we have never experienced before !!! one day he was bouncing around, the following day he was sick and off his food-took him to the vets she confirmed severe anaemia and we then started the task of trying to control it. High dosages of steroids and numerous other meds. initial good response then relapse-then he could no tolerate the high steroid dose affecting his liver. He really tried and enjoyed his food so much just did not have much energy. Yesterday however he was red hot and wobbly on his back legs-with a limp at the front-poor little man-his little body was struggling to cope so we made the decision to have him PTS. My other little dog is lost without him. Hope no one else has experience of this devastating illness that appeared totally out of the blue.
