i have always believed brown tack to be the prefered choice in showing. however i have found a tan suede saddle i like and wondered what peoples thoughts were on using this on a chestnut

Think the reason people usually have the dark brown saddle is to match with bridles, which again usually are dark brown. If you dont mind the contrast, I think it should look good on a chestnut!

I always think the lighter suede looks good teamed with the brown sabre bridles as they are a slightly lighter shade too (until they are oiled into becoming dark brown) I try not to oil mine often to try and keep that nice light colour that goes well on my chocolate dun ;D Just trying to save for the suede saddle now ;D

Personally don't like tan - I am boring and always stick to havanna/brown

As long as the saddle is a great fit the colour should not detract from the horse. Roy Trigg's favorite saddle was a very pale suede it went on numerous Champions and was passed on to Guy Landau and again has been on many a Champion.

I like mine, quite pale suits a lot of ponies.
