my vet always says that they are better out than in. make sure you get him done before the flies get about though.

I have to agree with the above comment, they are better off out than in, tends to lead to less swelling, just make sure you keep the wound clean

Totally agree with others, better out completely afterwards.

I leave mine in for a couple of hours after the op just so they wake up enough not to cause themselves too much damage, and then put them out in the field. You will need to get your finger out though as many vets don't like to geld once the flies/midges come out as it can lead to too many complications with infections. Good luck x

Yep i agree too!!! mine are always put out after castration, obviously you still have to keep a close eye on them but it is a much cleaner environment for them and all the excercise helps the operation site to drain suffincienlty.

Yes......get him done SAP Far better completely out after the job is done. Just need to wait until he is through the sedative and make sure hay net and feed are taken out of the stable. (about 1-2 hours) turn him out but make several checks that not bleeding (there may be a slow occasional drip of blood which is normal) Far less chance of infection out at grass and excercise will help drainage and allow swelling to subside quicker Babs www.SunrayAngloArabianStud.co.uk

Had one of mine done a week last sunday, he went straight out and stayed out once he had come too from the sedative, and you would never have known he had been operated on, practically no swelling, he is as bright as a button and wound is clean and almost completely healed. But as everyone has said you need to hurry before the flies.
