Our big cat george came home from his daily field excursion the other day with this thing attached to his neck. I knew it was a tic straight away. Are you sure says the OH. Yes, I said, you know how many animal programmes I watch! Vet gave us this contraption to use to get rid of it as you have to be carefull (apparently) to not leave the head and legs behind when you try to pull it out. Yuk, yuk, yuk!! Had to get my husband to do it though. I may be a nurse but as far as animals are concerned I am sooo squeamish, I may have been very ill otherwise. George normally squirms like mad when you hold him but not on this occasion, I think he was very glad to get rid of his passenger LOL.

Never had this problem, apparently smothering the tick with Vaseline also works, as they can't breathe and then just fall off - reckon even that would be gross - wouldn't want to touch it.

lol, poor george!!!! we used to live in south africa albeit 20 odd years ago now and ticks were quite common over there... We currently dont live near any particular fields ect and to my shock and horror one of our cats came home with 'a passenger' attatched to the base of her ear !!! Now Fifi isnt the most loving of moggies and i had to leave it on her till it was big enough to get off, using nail varnish remover!!! be carefull tho!! i do stress.... in all the years weve lived over here and the amount of cats i ve owned in the mean time...this was the first tick i had come across....and hopefully the last...... orrible things they are.. Glad you got rid of his passenger nursery

Yes vet nurse said about Vaseline and suffocating the little blighters. I am trying sooo ahrd not to think about it as it makes me feel very queasy. Yes penstock I certainly hope that will be last little passenger we get. Our other cat, twinkles (my beloved) does not go out very much so hopefully he won't get any. 100% yuk, yuk yuk!! (can you tell I don't liek them?)
