I too would love to know the 'tricks of the trade' with regards to gallop/ lengthen strides in the ring! My cob can easily gallop out on hacks, but has no understanding of what i'm asking him to do in the school - despite using one command when on hacks and the same in the school. I have tried having someone chase with a lunging stick, but that causes him to buck!! So any idea's and tips would be greatly appreciated by me too

I taught my cob to do it by schooling in the field and asking for gallop (always using the same aids) then bringing him back to the canter and basically i just kept repeating this over the course of the summer and by the end if i put both legs behind the girth he goes straight into gallop on command.
ETA At first i let him have a proper gallop then gradually reduced the length of time he was allowed to go for untill it was only a few strides.
