Friend has a 2 year old. Showing all signs of being due to foal. Diamond shape, dropped, slackened muscles, swollen and sore teats, restless, getting up and down. She nor had mare long. Belly is moving.
Vet out 2 days ago and blood test come back negative for pregnancy.
Mare currently got laboured breathing and getting up and down in her stable.
Is it posible blood test could be wrong?

Did the vet not do an internal examination? Why did he do a blood test?

The filly was very jumpy apparently and he didn't want to sedate her in case it damaged foal!!!
As that was my first question and it would have given a definite answer.
Have been reading that after 300 days levels drop.
The girl is more worried about her filly only being 2 years

Does sound like she looks in foal. Can the owner frind out anything about her history? What did the vet think?

A lot of people breed at 2 - I don't agree with it myself, but plenty of people do it.......
Shame for the mare that your friend hasn't been told.............

I personally would not breed from a two year old but lots of folk do, it is okay i suppose if the filly is the well developed sort, but not for me. That aside i would also be cautious of the vets tests as the bloods are not so reliable after 300 days as has already been said. At this late stage in pregnancy i am suprised the vet could not see foal movement from the outside (without an internal) as the mares sides would be full of foal!!! Mmmmm very strange keep us posted!

Some may cover at 2yo on purpose but surely not as a yearling to foal at 2yo? Sounds more like an accident - not that that makes any difference to the filly! I have known one being ridden foal unexpectedly after owner was told by vet not in foal - well I looked at it and reckoned it was just by the shape!

not heard anything so presume not. vet can see movement but wont commit to whether she is in foal. i have suggested perhaps going to a nearby stud where there is stocks to get her examined.
If its not a foal, god knows what is wrong woth her.
Just to add, am presuming it would be an accident as surely no one in their right mind would cover a yearling!! Owner knew nothing about it.

OMG mis read your post! i thought she was put in foal as a two year old to foal at three i assume it must be an accident then!!! The only sure fire method is an internal but at this late stage if she is pregnant i think i would be cautious if it is going to upset her I think if she was mine i would just put her in a safe paddock and watch her closely, if she is in foal time will tell

Good luck, hope everything goes well, if she is a two year old about to produce a foal she will need careful management to make sure both survive and are healthy and well. I would go for an internal exam to be positive, and would echo above and take her to a local stud with stocks.

I would avoid an internal if poss to avoid any additional stress and just wait and see! If she is in foal there is nothing you can do about it but watch her closely and with the signs she is showing you would need to do that anyway as something doesn't sound right. If she's bagged up with her belly moving(so long as not an optical illusion or wishful(or otherwise) thinking then it sounds pretty likely that she is. I knew of a 2yr old which foaled(unplanned) and everything was fine and mother and baby had no probs.

I remember reading in an old welsh journal (cannot remember what year!) about two welsh d yearlings being turned out together, one a filly and one a colt, no one saw them but somewhere along the line the colt obviously covered the filly and although they were both only yearlings the filly produced a healthy unplanned foal as a two year old!!! if i can track down the said journal i will, but it just goes to show never underestimate the breeding capabilities of our youngsters!! I hope all will pan out okay for your two year old and like others have said keep a really close eye on her.
