We have decided to make an additional change in direction and are now the proud owners of two caspians, a mare and colt from the most adorable lady "Mrs Pat Bowles (M.B.E.) of the world famous Bytham Stud. She has been a fantastic producer of this rare breed for many years and now has made the decision to disband the stud due to her age.
She is the most fabulous lady who made me so welcome today on my visit and has given me so much information about the breed I have yet to take it in - however she has sent me home with some fantastic information so I can read and digest at my leisure.
I orginally went to view her three year old colt - Bytham Justin Time and after being shown around th ponies and the stud made a decision that it would not be fair for her breeding programme to be stopped and to have a pure bred colt without at least one mare, so I decided to also have a mare as well, she was chosen to suit by Mrs Bowles and and she is a chestnut mare who is 8 years old!!!!
The breed is a proper rare breed with only around 300 "horses" in the country - they are not ponies even though stand around 11.2hh It was re discovered in the 1960's after being though to be extinct!!!!! Worldwide there is only around 1200 in total and only 50% breeding stock.
Anyway this photo is of Justin (taken from an open day picture last year!!!!)
This is his dad Runnymede Fel fel who is a 5 times Champion and fabulous stock getter.
We hope to be a supporter of the breed both in the pure and part breds and help to perserve some fabulous horses.
We are also bringing home a lovely 5 year old part bred out of a section a mare to back and sell.
I will take lots of photos when we get them home in the next week - once ive sorted a few extra places out lol!!!!
