Its amazing how often this happens dynamite! And its quite shocking aswell when you are working in the amount of people who dont know basic ring craft! Just a lack of respect really, a case of every man for himself! Can imagine its worse for a stallion, at least you had the decency to explain yours was a stallion and did it for the safety of yourself and the other rider. :-)

Exactly. An apology would have settled things but you dont always get one! If the situation was the other way around then it probably would have been different haha x

dynamite we had the same problem at this show once again people were stood in the middle grooming ponies and chatting etc when there was another covered area to do this and the rudeness of some of the competitors was astounding some people think they own the ring and very nearly caused several accidents we gave up in the end and came out as it caused more stress than good.

A collecting ring steward would help, they could warn the people who are inconsiderate as to their behaviour and if they didn't comply then ask them to leave, bad manners can lead to an accident.

Same happened here except, I was riding my FR and some stupid idiot on the most unstable and crazy horse cantered towards me and then reared up, of course Dolly swerved, but I nearly fell off! Poor Dolly, she must have been frightened to death!

Basic lack of manners either that or trying to upset you and your boy! I would like to see anyone try those tactics with my mare!

This is one of my bug bears! And I don't do ridden or have a stallion!
I have a 2 year old filly, at the last local show I went to, I went in the ring and was followed by another pony, I had only gone a few strides and knew something was wrong as my filly was really tense and trying to look round behind her and jog rather than walk on nicely. I turned to see what was wrong and the girl behind me was leading her pony right up behind mines bum. I politely asked her if she could keep back a little in case my pony kicked. I then had to suffer snide remarks everytime I went past her friends/family saying how "that pony should have a red ribbon in it's tail - it's a kicker!" - er no!!! Anyway I managed to bite my tongue and went on to win the class. It still winds me up now though, thinking about it, some people just have no common sense or horse sense at all!

We had little first ridden ponies and like teamhargreaves said a lot of time people on big horses just ride carelessly and think they can control the whole arena. However, some people have manners and will allow others to work in as well.

happened to me a long time ago when a pony shoudl have been removed from the collecting ring it was misbehaving so badly, the rider should have gone somewhere quieter as it was being dangerous, eventually the rider came off the pony and it galloped staight into me and my pony, knocking us both on the floor, we were all unhurt but it was extremely traumatic for my pony and left a mental scar for some while. Riders should just excersize some caution if they are having issues or have a dangerous pony in the same way that they should remember to look where they are going! Its a responsibility to you and the saftey of those around you! :S

Urgh, know what you mean. Was watching a class at a show the other day, and a young lad was on the outside track, whilst a pony was getting very close behind him, and the rider on said pony told this young lad to "Move it, or your ponys gunna get kicked", even though said rider was riding dangerously, and taking no control over her pony or consideration for the other competitors! And bare in mind this was in the 12hh's! xx
