Basically the story is this- we get anything fro 5 to 10 calls a day from a company called phone link trying to sell us things. Everytime they ask for someone called Mrs Dixon who doesn't and has never lived here. We had this number installed when we moved in and it is ex-directory. I have repeatedly asked them to erase the number and stop calling!!! today, I managed to get through to the supervisor who assured me he would personally erase the number; 5mins later, who should ring...? phonelink!!! I get so angry at these calls, does anyone know what I can do to stop them? I've threatened down the phone to ring BT/the police/ watchdog but we're not with BT and I'm not sure the police are the people to ring?!?! Any suggestions would be gratefully received!!!

yes you can do something. You can log on to a site and register your details.. ie: postcode and Tel number and then your number is taken of "The List" it take about a month but worth it. you can also stop junk mail. go to google anf type in TPS (telephone preference service) you should find it. after a month you can then say to these cold callers, you are registered.. and that you will report them they soon hang up. I have been registered with them for about four years.. and I now only get one or two calls a year. As soon as I ask them to repeat their name.. then metion TPS... they hang up straight away Good luck

Haven't had any calls for a while now- OH started telling them bad jokes when they rang, the record was 6 before they hung up! Seems to have worked, I've always said he's not as funny as he thinks he is! Overbent, you are funny!!!

We used to get alot of these. My mum kept a whistle next to the phone, and if they'd call my mum would blow the whistle. the people wear them earphone things and cannot get them off in time. And we dont really have many ''unwanted phone calls anymore''

BT also run a service called 'choose to refuse', whereby you can block a certain number from your phone. It isn't a free service, but we did get a month's trial free, and we then cancelled and the nuisance calls didn't start again. When you get a phone call from them, you just tap in a PIN number and that number then can't call your phone again, they just get a message saying this caller is no longer accepting calls from you.

we used the choose to refuse service when we were getting nuisance calls from a local kid who we competed against - we knew exactly who as she wasn't bright enough to withold the number! they were very helpful and barred the calls for us and we haven't had a problem since, i would recommend them to anybody with a similar problem

Hi Abe, tell them that you have some very sad news and that you hope they are sitting down and then grapically describe the demise of the aformentioned Ms Dixon. Artistic license will add to the certainty that they wont call again. I loved the idea of putting on a childish voice and signing about teletubbies, brill, I cant wait for a cold caller( I do feel sorry for those folk trying to earn a living in telesales)
