They can knock the wax off but keep a close eye on her as I would assume she is close to foaling if the wax was like candle wax.

It is not unusual for them to do this, but like holiday has said just keep a close eye on her (although i am sure you are anyway ;D) some mares get just little beads of wax that can fall off then go on to develop huge waxy droplets that adhere more firmly. Best of luck

Naughty naughty mare!!! ;D sometimes the wax can drop off when they leak pre foaling milk, are there any signs of dried milk or sticky hair on her lower hind legs??

If she was mine, I would likely have to stay at the yard just in case she was ready to go. Unfortunately they are not all textbook and if something unusual happens, I would want to err on the side of caution Hope she doesn't keep you waiting too long. Holiday - I feel for you....my mare is 2 weeks late and that's bad enough!

Oh the joys of breeding ;D all i keep telling myself when i am waiting for a foal to be born is that the mare has carried it for all those months so the least i can do is lose a few nights sleep to be there if she needs me. Sounds easy i know but it is much better to have bags under your eyes and aching bones than risk losing a precious foal or even your mare! Best of luck, here`s hoping she foals tonight for you!

Wow that was a long gestation!!! bet the mare was relieved after that birth!! as of course you were ;D And a healthy filly! which knocks the theory about colts taking longer than fillies right on the head

Today at 10am my mare kept lying down and getting back up again. We kept a close eye her since, then she kicking and stamping her feet and standing in the corner and walking around in circles. Now she is lying down out and looking abit anxious. and now she bagged up now and milk droplets on her udders. Hopefully night will be the night!! fingers crossed!

I would think if she has milk droplets on her teats then tonight could very well be the night - hope so to end your waiting If it's not tonight, then make sure foalie has an IgG test just in case mum is losing colostrum - the foal I have posted pics of has had a plasma infusion as he was borderline and my mare dripping milk for a few hours.

Holiday, what has the vet said to 6 weeks late?? You must be besides yourself...... We got our foal at 386 days, he is healthy and alive however was slightly slow getting about but was up and running well in a couple of days. The vet was quite concerned and said a late foal can be as bad as an early foal so I was to keep a real close eye on him when he arrived. However apart from wobbly legs which will come with management he is fit healthy and absolutely fabulous!!! Our vet checked him at a week old, as I took the mare for scanning due to her being so late I want to try and cover on foal heat, he was happy the mares uterus was good and she would be fine to go ahead with a covering, and was really pleased with him. I hope Guestless you have a safe arrival this morning!!!!!!
