Feeling very, very guilty at the moment. Have just collected my little dog from the vets. She has been spayed. Took her in this morning, full of bounce, wagging her tail and making a big fuss of everyone. Now she's lying in front of the fire, with her chin on the floor and everytime I catch sight of her she's giving me that 'how could you' look. I know I've done this for her own good and for all the right reasons, but boy am I having one heck of a guilt trip!!

Have just had to CARRY her down the garden to her usual spot for a wee!! She must have been dying for one! Now she's just panting and shivering, and I'm not allowed to give her any more painkillers tonight. And I'm still getting those 'can't believe you did this to me' eyes.

Don't feel like I can go to bed and leave her until she's a bit more settled. Have persuaded her to have a drink of water but she just can't seem to get comfy.

She's a lot brighter this morning, but is not my friend because I've put on the buster collar to stop her pulling at her stitches.
She has walked outside for a wee, and had a little something to eat, so hopefully will feel a lot less guilty soon!!!

The reason I chose to do this, was because of my mum's dog who suffered in later life due to not being spayed. Her teats became cancerous and had to be removed, one side and then later the other side, apparently this is hormone related and wouldn't have happened had she been neutered as a puppy. Also she suffered with Pyometra which is an infection of the womb and had to have a full hysterectomy at 12 years old, which took a lot of getting over. So my view was that to have a small operation as a puppy would save her the suffering later. And a younger stronger dog will recover much more quickly.
It's just horrible when they are feeling sorry for themselves, knowing it's because of something you chose to have done to them!!!

aww, poor puppy. But your right before long your puppy will of forgotten about it and will be bounding around as a puppy should do, before you know it.

you have done the right thing and she will forgive you, A friends dog got a infected womb and I know she wishes she had her spayed. And just think you can always take her out and not have to keep her shut a way at certain times

When I bought my dog he was very well behaved at 8 months I had him neutered and he turned into the devil incarnate, chewing expensive shoes, chewed thro' tv wire and blew the tv up ,also cd wires, telephone wire and hair straighteners. He has stopped chewing now he is 3 yrs old. He is a terrier and run forever. He is our wagon dog and would'nt swop him.

how is she tonight MM ? Lot better tonight thanks Ferret, has to go and have her stitches checked in the morning. Still wanting lots of cuddles though. She keeps scratching at the dressing (it's like a big sticking plaster) and is making her skin a bit sore so I'm putting sudocrem on it!! Is it just me that's this dotty over their animals?

Oldest son is pestering for a rabbit at the moment, my sister in law who lives on the same street as me has baby rabbits and baby guinea pigs all the time, but I'm putting my foot down. Have told him that he can go down and see them whenever he likes but we're not having one. Have done the hamster thing and he got bored in a fortnight and I ended up looking after it (and getting bitten because it didn't like being picked up). He showed no interest whatever, until it died, then we had to put it in a box and have a funeral in the garden!

How's puppy Milliesmum. Has she forgiven you yet?
I don't think you are the only one who's daft when it comes to their animals. We have just bought a purpose built stroller for our old b i t c h. She's had a couple of queer do's (strokes?) isn't as able as she was, but doesn't like missing out on a walk. OH pushes her along quite merrily lol! The things we do for our dogs!

She's feeling a lot better, just won't stop scratching where the dressing made her sore. Had to run to vets yesterday as she ran full belt into something and broke the buster collar cone thingy!
