My old girl is 34, never foaled and has never started lactating? However her other friend a 2 yo is also in season and she has seemed to have set her off. But the other night she escaped into the field with my 17hh gelding (my old girls only 12.2hh) and the next day she was soon brought in. Unfortunatly, i dont know what they got up to. But my mare seems to be lactating from her udders? I think he was gelded late as he acts very suspicious around the mares. someone said she could be having a phantom preggi? I'm probably worring over nowt, but he definatly does have his nabs off? Has this ever happened to anyone?

Just wondering, was the field they escaped into very rich in grass??? some mares can start to produce watery type milk on rich pasture, just a thought?

I would also go with rich grass, however some mares can also get an "in season" bag.

yeah, it was fairly rich. But she had only been out for less than 8 hours. She is just quiet a tart! She did the same last year, when she came in season. But this time, one of the other geldings (13.2hh) did actually managed to cover her. But nothing was thought of it as he definatly does have his nabs off and he was also cut late, that explains what he did. But she didnt lactate last year. And i'm possative she aint preggi. Maybe she's just catchen up on the years she missed? But have taken into concideration the rich grass. ThankyouX
