I have a broodmare who is due on 31 may. second foal. i have been keeping an idea on her bits!! in the last week her 'ladies bits' have moved outwards more and her teats have dropped down. do you think she will be early?? how long do you think she will have??

It sounds like she is getting ready, I would keep a close eye on her but it could still be near her due date. I have had one foal 2 weeks early with no signs of any changes yet another has a huge udder and wax and is 3 weeks late. Wouldn't it be much easier if they could just tell us. This lack of sleep is killing me

last time she foaled, she was text book. but i can feel it that she is going to be soon. i have a hunch. maybe im wrong.

Good luck with the mare I have just got i from foaling the third mare this year she was 10 days over and and wasnt showing many signs. 0nly 6 more to go.

My mare is due on the 26th and she has had thickened and swollen teats for about two weeks but her udder is now swelling and she looks like being on time or maybe a little early.I always look for the bag to start getting firm before i really get excited, when they are getting close usually the teats start to point forward and become wider apart and the crease in the rear of the udder starts to fill out at the back. Good luck, sounds like you may beat my girl to it!!! ;D

 ohhh - vjc - that sounds just like my mare today lol x she was due on the 27th May - her bag is firm as well - just checked - waxed up and running her milk - well time will tell x

One of mine was over due bagged up but no wax - had it in the field over night - neighbour saw him up and running around at 5.30am. The other one waxed up and foaled within hours but 7 days early of her due day (she was only covered the once)  Yours looks as though it has waxed in the photo Good luck I hope all goes well |

[/quote] I would say she still has a little while to go yet as her bag hasnt filled properly, and teats are still turned inwards, however all these signs can change really quickly so keep a close eye on her!!!! Hi vjc, yes, I cant wait either! I can hardly sleep myself now I am like a child at Christmas! ;D The weather is gorgeous here too at the minute, I checked Cashla (my mare) tonight again, the little yellow wax bits she has had for a week now have dropped off, still not much udder but her belly is getting really low, the top of her tail is quite prominent and she is very loose around the vulva...a few more days (I hope!  . |
