Hi Redmaddi
I think that wether you have the patches or go cold turkey you have to want to stop. I am still climbing the walls but I am determined to do it. One of the things that is so nice is that I had a few notes in my purse at the beginning of the week and they are still there now. Come on if I can do it anyone can beleive me We can support each other

Thankyou Skint, I'm already trying to break the habbit of when I'd usually have one in preparation for next week, I'm also going to try and plan a very busy week so I won't have time to think about it too much, all I hope is that any plans I make do not become stressful and make matters worse Ha,Ha I've just noticed this was my 500th post and now I'm a GOD

I was very lucky as I was given an ultimatum by my now OH - give up smoking or him. I had acupuncture (a pin in my ear for two weeks) and then he took me away for a week away from my normal smoking routine. I have now been given up for fourteen years BUT I do still have my last cigarette in its box. I always found that if I had no cigarettes I craved them but because I had one it did not matter. Weird I know but it worked. I do still have times when I think I just fancy a f*g but then look at my OH and change my mind.
The only thing I would say is please be very careful you do not eat instead. I made that mistake and put two stone on in about three months and I cannot get rid of it. Find something to do with your hands for the f*gs and a glass of water when you think you need something to eat.
Good luck to you all - you will feel so much better.

have just seen it on the front page of AOL apparently they want smokers to pay a annual fee of £10 to smoke to help fund the NHS, but what I want to know is will that money only be used for smokers or for everyone. It is only a short step from putting metre's on our heads and charging us for the air that we breath

That's unbelievable! Oooh I'm climbing on my soapbox now!!!
The millions the government make from smokers, could revolutionise the NHS in one fell swoop, IF it went into the NHS! Instead they take the money and then penalise smokers and treat them like lepers! You can come to England from any country on earth and take advantage of the NHS hospitality, but if you're English you can't have your operation until you quit smoking and lose 4 stone thank you very much!! Even if you've worked and paid NI contributions all your life! Ooohh it makes my blood boil!!!!
Climbs down off soapbox and takes several deep breaths . . . . . and before you ask I've never smoked in my life!

Just read in the newspaper that the £10 "license" will have to be produced before you can buy cigarettes in any shop. AND they intend making the application forms so long and complicated that it will put people off applying!!

Well they did that with the post office accounts when they went over to direct payment. I still call it 'family allowance' and I was determined I was going to get it from the post office - but the palaver of opening an account was ridiculous. I could arrange to get it paid into my bank account in 5 minutes over the phone! But they want to do away with the little post offices, so we need to use it or lose it! Sorry, off topic I know, but these things wind me up - I must be pre-mental or something!

but will the money that they get from this tax be used purely for people who smoke or will it just get lost in administration or just get lost as they seem apt to do of late

Kids - don't you just love them but you couldn't eat a whole one! Daughter is filling in her options form on the way to school, having spent some time last night doing her welsh homework...If I smoked I'd have no chance of giving up
