A few weeks ago my little mare was being very grouchy, uptight and tense so i stopped riding her and just lunged until i could get the vet out to see her (half term was booked up)Whilst i was lunging her i had really bad palpitations and was tacken to hospital by mother-in-law and daughter !I had very high blood pressure! They told me of for not calling an ambulance ::)So i have to go back to be hooked up for 24hrs.Vet came last week and my poor baby has a fractured poll! The yard seems to be like the twighlight zone at the moment weather wise, it has it`s own micro climate so when i ride Lurch you can guarantee it`s blowing a gale!but all around is calm and sunshine!

Blimey you are not having a good week are you! How did she fracture her poll? Must have been frightening to be having them while at the yard - good job people were there! Poor you and Poor horsey! I hope you and her are better very soon.

The only way we think she could have done it is on the frame over her door!?

I do know a horse that fractured his poll but he did it in the field and wasnt able to be ridden again as it just hurt him too much - he's a companion now though.
Sorry probably not something you want to hear but they arent sure how he did it in the field.

I do hope she recovers ok, bless her, and you too!
I had similiar happen to me after being stressed with OH heart problems, heart felt like it coming out of my chest and my heart rate was so high that they put me in coronary care for a day or two to monitor me but had every test going, like you hooked up to BP monitor, stress test, ecg's etc but nothing wrong at all, put it down to anxiety attack, coping with all the stress it finally came to a head ! Gave me anti depressants for a week to try and calm me down and I was fine !
Good luck with the tests!

Spot, do you drink a lot of coffee, tea or cola? I started to suffer palpitations and switched to decaffienated coffee and coke, and the problem has gone. Worth a try!
Hope you and your mare are both feeling better soon.

poor you spot, if I was you I would take up smoking and drinking and drinking at least that way you have a excuse for the pains, I thought I was having a heart attack OH reckons I need a heart first. Sorry to hear about your horse but time is a great healer we were told our mare would probably never be ridden again and she has just started work again so hold on to that thought

Hi sparkle, she is still very sensative behind the ears no more bute, but she is being an idiot in the field! she is normally ridden for 1-1 1/2 hrs six days a week so if you don`t work her she lets of steam when turned out! she was doing an impression of a welsh sec D stallion this morning!

I had palpatations but not enough for an ambulance. My doctor at the time said its sometimes stress related and can also be your body telling you to slow down. It is scary because it feels like your heart is trying to jump out your body weird feeling! Your horse sounds lovely and I hope all will be allright take care and relax your body and mind if you get palpatations again.

thank you all for your concern, I am awaiting blood test results to see if i have an overactive thyroid or diabetes! If they are clear then i have to see a cardiologist, Dr said they are definitly not panick attacks or stress related!BUT horse is doing fine! and lurch is starting to look good and going reasonably well.
