Hi, I just wondered if anyone could recommend any schooling exercises to improve my horses trot. I have only had her for a couple of months and she has a nice forward walk and canter, but in trot she is very stuffy and appears to take quite short steps. If I try to push her on using my leg or a light tap with the whip she breaks in to canter. She is in her late teens so probably well established with the way she trots but I'm hoping there is something I can do to make it a bit more free flowing.
Thanks

I had a cob who had a choppy trot but the best canter. I used to try and get him to relax and go long and low, and pole work to encourage him to lengthen his stride, he still went choppy when excited!!
