Can anyone help me please I feel a little silly asking as I have done showing for a few years but it has been 99% ridden classes the odd occasion i did in hand I just wore jods and boots but only on very rare occasions.
I have just bought 2 grey 3 year olds and want to show them in hand but have no idea what trousers to wear/buy and from who/where
Any advice gatefully received! Thanks

cords to match the colour of the ponys legs from primark £7!! i must tell you this (its a bit cruel but funny) we were watching the inhand appaloosas at windsor and there was a lady showing her appy in a pink shirt, pink stetson, bright yellow waistcoat and cream very very very tight (with the most inappropriate underwear on that maybe fitted her pre-easter eggs!) she was a 'slightly fuller figure' lady (not that theres anything wrong with that) and it did look funny. we knicknamed her rhubarb and custard. lol lol

Being a 'fuller figured lady' myself, cream is very unforgiving, and bridget jones style undies are a must! One needs to dress to flatter!
Back on topic, I thought you were supposed to wear a contrasting colour to the pony's legs, so the judge could easily pick out who's legs were who when you're on the move? Or am I being dim?

Nope you are right MM.
The only exception to that is during evening performances when i wear black trousers (I have bay ponies) along with a black sparkly waistcoat. But the dress code for in-hand evening performances is a bit more "anything goes" than the ridden - for the ladies anyway, you can't beat a man in an evening suit with bow tie imho.

That's why I thought dark maybe blue or brown - I was assuming it would be a light grey I don't know why.

I have a blue/grey tweed jacket - so navy trousers - cords from sainsbury's £8 - for chestnut/flaxen boy or cream with the black ones. Ditto evening perf - always black trousers with sparkly evenig jacket.

Def light for dark horses, and dark for light horses or the judge wont be able to distinguish your horses legs!

Furball is right, light trousers for dark horses and dark for light horses.
Try the charity shops, got all ours from there!

Same as hummer, all my trews come from the charity shops, apart from one very nice pair of ultra expensive cords I bought from the January sales in a country wear outfitters for a fiver, it will however cost me rather more to get them 'turned up' at the bottom. I trawl the charity shops on a regular basis and always find them a boon for nice ties also.

M & S Navy Cotton twill bootcut jeans / trousers. Smarter than jeans and have a bit of stretch and come in short, medium and long lengths. £12 you may have to order them as most stores only have the denim version on display, but there are plenty in stock!

Charity shops are great also - as Armada says, especially for ties, also the odd waistcoat that no-one seems to want - I have navy suede one for £1.50.

Cords from Marks and sparks. They have differing leg lengths aswell ( i think most places do ?), so you can get a pair that you wouldnt need to turn up. They last aswell!

Thanks so much everyone I will get shopping - I think the contrast thing is right as I showed my old connie (who I had 10 yrs ago!) and the girl said black trousers so the judge could clearly see her legs.
Collecting the girls next saturday - so excited not had any of my own ponies for 3yrs (very painfully) so cant wait they both have dark legs so think I will try and find some light ones to match my jacket - i will get shopping!

The correct attire is for ponies with dark legs- wear lighter trousers and for ponies with lighter legs [e.g. socks] wear darker trousers.
