As my "new arrival" thread reveals, I have bred my first ever colt. If (and it is a big IF) he is good enough, we would like to have a go at keeping him entire......but he would be our first entire male so any advice on anything I need to do differently? I'm already being quite strict on the nibbling and not letting him chew on everything he wants to. I've also warned people not to give him anything by hand. His mum is my herd's matriarch so is already being quite disciplinarian with him (he's not allowed ANYWHERE near her when she's got a feed bucket, whereas my other mares always let their filly foals in) so I think she will be a big help in teaching him manners. He's had a rope halter on (with long lead round his quarters) and I'll be doing that at least once a week...but I have always done that with my foals anyway. Advice greatly received. ;D

From your post you are doing everything right, keep up his manners and make sure he knows his space from you, colts I find are quite quick to learn to stick their shoulder in you with their head turned away so be sharp to correct and keep him listening!!!
He is still a horse and does not want any different handling but I correct them all the same any rearing or naughtiness needs to be stopped straight away, to be honest ive had more "moments" with fillies than colts lol!!! I would show a colt anyday above a filly!!!

Thanks holiday. I had to stop one of the teenagers who helps me out from enticing him to play chases with her last night - they forget that they may be small and cute now but that won't last.....I think the image I gave her of what he COULD end up trying on her put her off, lol!
