I agree that it depends on the circumstances - if a rider has a fall then use they should have to leave the ring, but for example a leadrein jockey needing to go to the toilet is acceptable (especially in a huge class)! I was once at a show where a horse got loose in the ring and all the smaller jockeys were dismounted and moved to a safer area until the horse was caught - fair enough that they were then allowed to remount and continue as they'd only been dismounted for safety reasons.

when i was little i remember being in a massie class at a show and i really needed the loo, mum asked steward who asked judge who said it was fine for my sisterto get me from the side of the ring to go to the loo, i think we were then placed aswell, but obviously the judge authorized it. at three counties last year in the novice m&ms they told us all that we could get off if we wanted to because it was windy and the parachutes were coming down and they didn't know if they would be able to land all of them successfully in the main ring(we were in the ring right behind the main ring) because of the wind.

I had to get off as my pony had got his tongue over the bit and I couldn't put it back under witout getting off, I did ask the steward but she said she wasn't comfortable in doing it for me, what is everyone's oppinion on that?

We have had this situation twice - the first time I sorted it from the side of the ring (during initial walk round) but daughter was then told she could not continue in class (they did allow her to carry on HC), 2nd time at a different show the judge called me into the ring to sort it so it really does depend on the judge & probably the level of class (although both were affiliated).
