Perhaps this will actually increase numbers. Classes are so very expensive to enter, if you have no chance of coming anywhere why waste your money? Frankly most average amateurs have (particularly with children's ponies) very little chance of winning against produced ponies.
Personally I would have thought if you particularly want to do these classes, then it would be more in the spirit to buy a novice and produce yourself entirely.
If you want a produced pony (for whatever reason) then compete against the professionals. Lets be honest, most of us buy from professionals because we can afford to pay the money to buy (not always I know) the best. I put my hands up, I am competitive and certainly when I was buying for my daughter, I was not buying ponies I thought might come second.
You really should not expect to have the best of both worlds. I have not heard the bit*hing round the ring, but a mum trying her best to do things herself and who has to struggle financially to even get to the class, can be forgiven to be faced with a bunch of 'professionally produced home produced' ponies and to be somewhat upset.

If you purchase a produced pony then you haven't home produced the pony then have you, just purchased it for its record and usually because it is recognisable by many judges! In this case go in the open classes, leave the HP for people who enjoy bringing on their own to the best of their ability...go play with the big boys if you can afford to pay the big prices!!
It needs to be taken right back to being what it states, I also feel there are genuine situations where by animals should be eligible if stabled on a livery yard as long as no schooling either lunging or riding takes place as part of their livery, putting a feed into a stable doesn't have any input on to how the horse is produced in my eyes - but I suppose the problem would be in policing this and the honesty of the owners

I have just read the saga in the Area 8 PP. How absolutely disgraceful. Really sad for the second placed pony, all the other ponies in the class completing within the rules, the show organiser, in fact every one.
I think you need these rules and more.

Sorry sage and onion not quite sure what you mean - I think you may have misunderstood. We haven't broken any rules - our ponies this year have either been broken by us or bought from HP family so do not have any concerns. I was just bringing up a point regarding the proposed new rule about bringing the date forward to 1st October that that could affect many home produced families buying ponies at the end of the year. Thanks anyway x Just read the thread on PP Area 8 and I understand what you are saying - no offence taken but as I said was just highlighting possible issues rather than actual rule breaking.

I agree with ernies posts, why should they not buy a pony from wherever this wish and then produce it themselves if they are genuine home producers?
