I've not seen him much in the ring, as I haven't been showing for long (used to be a dressage diva lol), but I've been to his yard, and all the horses are happy and well cared for. I'm not sure if they hack out though as it's in the middle of a big, busy village, and hacking isn't very good at all there.
I also had a lesson with him, years ago and it was very useful, if you're the kind of person who needs someone yelling at you what to do and kicking you ar*e into gear then not so good perhaps, but he explained everything well and made sure I understood what I could do to improve.
I would be very happy to send a horse there.

Why wouldn't you have your horse on his yard, you only have to look at his results ................ your horse would be worth more in his hands than at home ........ he may not have fancy equipment ............. but the horses are well schooled and all bomb proof and hack out which is more than can be said for a lot of other show horses.................... that are nervous near traffic ............ i wish i could afford for robert to have my hunter ...... altho i haven't enquired how much he is..............

I once worked at an equestrian magazine and he helped out with a show feature and was wonderful and so was his OH. Very very nice people, horses all looked very well cared for and they did a great job with the ponies and riders for our feature.

How about his dad, heard he can be a little quirky, but apparently half the price of Rob and the junior showman had to learn his trade from someone.
Does anyone know / recommend Mr Walker snr? Is he still going strong? Also he is too based in Cheshire?

Last I heard Tony Walker (Robert's dad) lived in Etton, East Yorks. He used to judge at our local hunt show when I was small (years ago!) He's a typical traditional Yorkshire horseman, and you can't beat one of those - as any Whittaker. He likes a horse with manners that does it's job correctly.
I did beat Robert once at the pony club summer show in the WHP championship. It'll be the only time I stand above him in the line up, I reckon.

The good thing about both of them is they put the work in. At shows they are not there to boost the takings of the stockmens bar! Senior would have my vote as he doesnt have so many horse to do as Junior and so doesnt have to spread himself so far.
Like any prof producers if yours is a world beater it is top of the pile, if it is just a 'smart' horse it is more difficult.
One of the main skills of any prof is 'keeping yourself in the best company and your horse in the worst'.
