Violet (Marieke) foaled beautifully last night at 9.15 she had a bay filly foal and we have called her Hazel as I was on the phone to my friend Hazel when she got down so an abrupt got to go was required and a switch all the tea off which I was trying to get cooked and eaten before she foaled, yeah right!!!!!
We have a lovely work placement girl here this week called Nikki, she arrived Sunday night and in the space of 24 hrs she came to the stud with me for scanning work, saw all the stages of the follicles etc, and pregnancies in the mares, we had to collect from my young stallion Bathleyhills Chocolate Dream, it was the first time we had him jump the dummy, he was a star jumped and collected in around 5 mins so thrilled with him and inseminated the mare, (we did have he option to cover her if it wasnt going to happen lol!!!! but I insisted as he was at the stud we would try and collect as my feeling is if thats all he knows there he wont do any different!!!) When we arrived at the stud a mare started to foal so she was there to watch and Geoff and Sarah explained what was happening and of course Violet foaled last night, what a day a crash course in breeding from start to finish!!!!
Anyway back to Violet (as Arthur has just got up for some more breakfast so I can see on the camera!) a fantastic foaling and baby was up within 5 mins ive never had a foal go from ive just been born to jump in the air straighten your legs, land on you feet and off and away lol!!! Sucked quite quickly and we actually had a good nights sleep (excluding Arthur but I got off to bed earlish and OH can have a lie in!!!!)
