You may have heard that Grandstand Media Ltd, organisers of Horse of the Year Show, would like to review the way competitors qualify for the Show. Grandstand recognises that there is a passionate interest in any potential changes that are made to the qualification process and want to ensure that the equestrian community are part of the process enabling opinions to be voiced. The main discussion topics will surround the HOYS qualification process: suggestions will be put forward by Grandstand and participants of the focus group will be able to discuss what changes are needed and how the current qualification system can be improved. Grandstand has organised three focus group sessions, these will be held at Stoneleigh Park Conference Centre on Monday 28th June 2010. Each session will last approximately two hours. For the opportunity to attend the focus group and join the discussion please email your name, contact details, current involvement with HOYS and order of preference of the sessions you would like to attend (11am - 1pm, 2pm - 4pm or 5pm - 7pm) to showsecretary@hoys.co.uk, by Wednesday 16th June 2010. Places will be limited and selections will be made randomly from those that express an interest in attending. All selected applicants will be notified by email on Monday 21st June. If you are unable to attend but would still like to voice your opinion please email details to showsecretary@hoys.co.uk

I do wonder just how "random" the selection of attendees will be.

I cannot understand all this.
Grandstand are giving people the opportunity to email them to attend a focus group. Granted they have picked a Monday but if they had picked a weekend there would be more people saying that only those with no interest could go due to competitions!!!
I work full time and am sufficiently interested that if I am selected to go, will have to take time off work. After all, in the end, and with my competitors hat on, I might not have to travel to as many shows as I do now to qualify and so in the future may need to take less days holiday in my "obsession" with HOYS
If I am attending as a show organiser or other interested party that wishes to go "into partnership" with HOYS, then I would expect that my expenses would be paid - but not by HOYS.

Up to a point I agree with agent.
I can't go as I have a meeting on that day that I can't change. It would have been beneficial if GSM had offered 3 alternative days rather than 3 time slots on one day.
I would have been happy to pay my own expenses.

GSM is a profit making organisation, I can't see why it would be unreasonable to expect out of pocket expenses from them to take part in their market research exercise - yes I do enjoy HOYS - but the sole motive behind this exercise will be for GSM to investigate if there is a potential to further maximise profits.
Good luck to those who go, bet its good fun if nothing else. Be good if anyone selected can let us know the 'options' that GSM put forward.

No doubt they will plonk our results on some sort of website, charge us all to register and per view, allow fewer of us to qualify, raise the entry fee but not the prize money and rip us off for stabling amd parking trucks when we get there.
Is there truth in the rumour that will be 10 Hack tickets?
