Sorry for repeating any other threads but I can't find them in the search boxes! I've seen quarter markings on some animals that look (and stay looking) almost "wet and shiny", does that make sense??? What do people use to get this effect? Mine never look that good or last that long! What do you all use????Thanks for all your help. ;D

Gold label quarter mark spray/ mane tamer is good stuff to set them with , and done with a comb rather than a stencil, then sprayed over with something like show shimmer aerosol spray.

when i groomed for a pony producer she used a human hair comb and removed the teeth to be able to make two squares and hair moose on the bum before using the comb but i agree with emmajane about the show shimmer for the sparkle affect.

agree with emma.jane.m use a human hair comb with the teeth taken out to make equal square shapes. Cheap hair gel mixed with a bit of water and a good body brush but eeeeeekkkk!!! NO GLITTER please

I use the human plastic "nit combs" (find them really easy to cut to size) and cheapo wet look hair gel mixed with water. I finish it off with a bit of hairspray.

My Sec C goes out every night on her hacks with a full set of flashes and quarter marks. As she's a Sec C we can't use them in the ring, but as her coat is in such fabulous condition I feel compelled to show them off, even if it is to the numpties in cars. I've never used gels and sprays, but the marks never move. I was always told a coat in good condition should hold the marks, which is why they are put on in the first place for show hunters etc. I'm sure judges should be able to see a false mark against a good condition one.

we use a plastic nit comb for quarter marks. one side has less teeth than the other for show pony and the other side with more teeth is for show hunter pony marks. we just wet the coat before doing them and then use firm hold hairspray. works really well, even stay in under rugs when it rains x

this is probs a bit late as thread was started a while ago, but when I had my hunter pony to get quarter marks to stay I would wet the hindquarters, then spray with Supreme Products sparkle spray and then after doing the quarter marks would hairspray them. Hope this helps

Baby oil mixed with water the night before. & just before entering the ring, Slightly damp sponge over where the quarter marks are going, quater marks with a metal nit comb & sharks teeth with a damp, soft bristled brush. Then finally a bit of ASDA's own, hairspray!
