So i have my first foal and at 9 weeks old he's quite aggresive towards his mum. He really bites her hard and she squeals but doesn't reprimand him, he kicks her and now is mounting her with his willy fully out!
I have always had weanlings but never encountered this sort of behaviour off such a young one. Is this normal? am i over worrying?

No, she been a broodmare all her life and is 18yrs old, this is why i find her lack of discipline a bit strange....

Are they out with other mare's & foals? Another mare won't put up with his behavior!! and will tell him off.

No, they are on their own, i am picking up another mare and foal tomorrow so they can go together, foal tries to get in with the big boys though! Caught him trying to climb though the fence to get to them the little sod!

A lot can be a bit naughty with mums and some just dont seem to care!!! I shouldnt worry too much shell get fed up after a bit and trot off they usually do in due course!!!!! Ive got a really miserable young mare who wouldnt tolerate anything from anyone else however her foal spends most of his life stood over her back in or out the stable!!!!!

Sounds like he is just being a cheeky boy and his mum is letting his behaviour go for the time being but she say enough is enough before long and start brunting him off!!! perhaps she knows by not reacting to his behaviour he will get fed up and stop!!! she might be cleverer than you think ;D

My 6 week old foal is doing the same to his mum, although she does tend to walk off and leave him if it gets too much for her.

My colt has been naughty from day one, and I worried as the mare never seemed to reprimand him (she was a maiden too) He is now 8 weeks old and although still a little cheeky, I have noticed her telling him off every now and again when he gets too much...especially when she's being fed. I also turned them back out with my other broodmare who has just been scanned in foal, and she seems to 'keep the peace' in the field as she is so laid back. Don't worry too much about your little one.....mum will tell him off when she gets annoyed, and she probably does anyway when your not looking!! Good luck x
