This cat is the most unlucky creature in the world. Came back in Thursady night with his leg flapping around. Was at our local vets till 2am then had to take him yesterday to orthopaedic specialist in Fakenham, which is 50 miles form us! He had surgery yesteday to reapir his totally smashed up leg and vet is hopefull all will go ok. His worst problem, as it was a compound fracture, will be infection. fingers crossed, I know lots of cats do survive quite happily on three legs but just would so upset if he had to have his leg off. Becasue he will have a frame on his leg he will have to stay in a cage for 4-6 weeks!! Hopefully will collect him from vets on Monday, place is jsut not the same without my beloved. Beginning to wonder why I have animals they cause so much upset. Husband has said that is it, NO more pets. Also saying a little prayer that insurance will cover cost of all his treatment which should come to £2500, not the sort of money we have lets put it that way.

Yes here's hoping he gets well soon, we love that little cat sooo much, even our other car, George is pining. Children have put two tonne of toys in cage for him but I am sure even that is not going to ease his annoyance at being in there for four weeks!!

Just returned form follow up appointment at specialist vets, X rays show that bone not healing as well as it should and possibly some infection in the bone. He has got to stay in external fixator for four more weeks!! i am devastated really thought they would say all ok and take frame off. mind you if infection gets worse and he has to have his leg removed after ALL this i will be more than devastated. Why oh why do we have these animals!!??

thank you dazycutter and heathers for your kind words. i feel so silly and very bad he is just a cat after all some people on hg have endured of late but i truly love this cat , he is unique. never had one like him in 20 years of cat owning. religiously ensuring he has his anti-biotics and keeping everything crossed for next four weeks!

twinkles is due to go back to specialist vets on thursday fo repeat x ray and check up . Our current vets bill there is £2600 and our insurance limit is £3000. My OH (in a particularly bad mood today, grrrr, men!!) has said that he does not want twinkles re x rayed as we have not got the money and that when I go on Thursday i should tell them to take off external fixator and see how twinkles goes. I know we have not got the money but last time we went vet said that fracture is not healin and that twinkles may have osteomyelitis, which could cause other complications if it is not treated properly. What should I do?? OH will go mad if i get cat x rayed!!

Surely an xray won't cost £400 will it? I'd stick with it and don't tell OH, if fixator comes off too soon it will be a waste of all the good work already done and if he does have osteomyelitis which needs treating maybe you could make another claim for that condition os it is not technically the same as his accident. May be a bit of a fight for that one with insurers though - they don't like paying out.

kayjayem thanks for your reply. Last x ray did cost nearly £400, sounds alot but honest, it did! My insurnace company will only pay out up to £3000 in 12 months so unaqble to put in any more claims this year.

Poor Twinkles and poor you. I think you need to speak to the vet regarding future bills. You cannot afford to pay out anymore yourself and your husband is being sensible whereas we get all emotional. Xrays should not cost that much unless they are some high tech things. Vet needs to help out here (they have received sizeable income from you and your insurance company) and offer you alternatives. A little birdie does say they load up the bills when they know it is insurance, so hopefully a compromise can be reached and Twinkles gets everything needed.

Definately could be worth a word with the vet, when our cat was attacked a few months ago they asked if he was insured - when I said he wasn't and gulped and said I'm going to struggle with the finances if he needed a second op and more drugs, they were really good about it. Didn't exactly say they charge less for direct payment but as good as admitted it and my bill was nothing like I had expected! Good luck, fingers crossed - why do we always give them our hearts?
