We cover mares with stallions that are shown at the same time as covering, as long as you manage their weight correctly (Covering takes a LOT out of a stallion, and can cause weight loss) and they know their manners. You do however take that risk that a mare can knock your stallion out of the showring for a few weeks should they kick him (and some mares are utter b*tches)

we have a mixture from welsh through to connies, we mainly do the inhand and flat classes, 8 of the 10 are broken to ride, they are shown all year (we don't do the every weekend show thing though). yes a stallion will lose weight with the covering bit but were quite lucky as we have only one which does lose weight, but this is over come by giving the extra feed (little and often). does the stallion you are want to use live with mares at his yard?
